Each year THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of innocent seals are violently and savagely  beaten to death  for their fur, oil and genitals.
Thousands of animals, particularly the agile Cape Fur seals in Namibia, receive multiple beatings before they are rendered dead or unconscious. As if this was not bad enough, both video evidence as well as veterinary reports confirm that hundreds of others are often skinned alive in a perverse violation of internationally accepted anti-cruelty laws.
The USA, Mexico, the 27 nations of the EU, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and recently Taiwan have all BANNED the import of seal derived products based on the inherent cruelty involved. While we applaud the compassionate stance of these countries, it is not enough.
We need YOU to join us in A GLOBAL OUTCRY!

It is the ONLY species of seal to be found on the African continent. It has suffered a 97% loss of preferred habitat and has barely survived six major mass die offs. Namibian government scientist Dr.JP Roux has confirmed that between 95%-100% of all pups born in 1994 did not survive. In 2004 the Cape Fur Seal suffered the largest mass die off of any marine mammal in recorded history. An estimated 350 thousand animals died.
To make matters worse, the Namibian government slaughters 80 000 nursing pups by beating them to death with pick handles. A further 6 000 adult bulls are shot so that their genitals may be exported to the East, fueling the illegal trade in animal body parts for fake medicines and aphrodisiacs.

  • About Us: "The Seals of Nam" is a global initiative that had its humble beginnings in mid 2010. Founded by well known South African animal rights campaigner, Pat Dickens, "The Seals of Nam" aims to unite interested parties to bring the stench of the Namibian seal massacre to the nostrils of an indignant world.

Initially nothing more than a pipe dream, Pat took on the the project with the guts and determination of a true warrior. He resigned from his job in the corporate world and set about the task of raising awareness. Through his dedicated efforts, and in the face of immense opposition, through trials and tribulations, Pat worked towards getting the plight of the Cape Fur Seals in Namibia the recognition they deserve.

Today, &quot; The Seals of Nam&quot; is recognised as being on the forefront of the battle to end the Namibian hunt. Our successes can no longer be attributed to just one man, but to a multitude of respected organizations and a broad cross section of individuals.

Through the collaborative efforts of many, "The Seals of Nam"; has garnered the support of celebrities, had representatives appearing on National television networks, been guests on radio shows and staged successful demonstrations against the Namibian hunt in several leading international cities. We have generated major petitions, had news articles printed in local and international media, provided logistical support to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and even appeared before the Namibian Government along with major industry players such as Sea Shepherd, IFAW, Seal Alert SA, WSPA and others.

We will continue to fight for an end of the Namibian hunt. We believe it to be unsustainable, illegal, immoral, uneconomical and a violation of human rights as well as basic animal welfare standards.

We encourage other organizations to join us in our initiative, to set aside any differences and to put up a united front against the atrocities that are perpetuated on the Cape Fur Seals.

If you are an official representative and would like to involve YOUR organization, please do so by sending us an E-mail TheSealsOfNam@gmail.com We would love to have you on board as the stronger our coalition becomes, the better our chances at putting an end to the brutal practice of seal clubbing.

  • Sea Shepherd Conservation Society "End of the world Coming? Yes, but not how its reported." -- My personal view and rant. - Omar Todd - CIO of Sea Shepherd. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9730618/Mayan-apocalypse-panic-spreads-as-December-21-nears.html The irony of of this is while all these people panic for a fictional ending, the reality is the end is coming, for our species but it is MAN MADE not an "act of god". It reminds me of J. Robert Oppenheimer's famous quote originally from Bhagavad Gita, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.". Why do people all panic for a perceived end of the world based on rumours, fiction and pure faith yet the hard evidence revealed at the Doha Climate Change Conference where after 12 days the best results that were obtained were a continuation of an outdated agreement that only encompasses a small percentage of the world top polluters (the US being the largest polluter never signed up to the original Kyoto accord) is barely a ripple in the world's media?    Despite the urgent reports of scientists and the fact even the average person on the street acknowledges at least the perception of more uncertain weather patterns and seasons, the climate can is again kicked down the road and our borrowed time gets less and less.  A report in the UK revealed just the other day that the young generation are more concerned about "jobs" where 10 years ago climate was on top of the list of concerns. This is not a good sign. I think the financial crisis is a excellent "trailer" on how we act as a species with unpleasant decisions. Based on the fiscal cliff we have all been hanging off the past 6 years, not alot has changed. The system is broken, we patch it up, have more and more conferences, but really it's based on a flawed outdated system that really cannot be saved. (I'll reserve my rant on the evil that is the federal reserve for another time).  Will the climate problem be delt with in the same way? While our cities sink, the weather becomes more erratic,   will we continue to spurt out debates and mini solutions while never coming to a consensus for a global solution? Yes definitely, this is how I believe it will play out.  Apathy as Paul Watson has often said is our primary problem. We are a species that lives day by day, on borrowed time and only with a consensus of will power and some heavy science will we see through the oncoming crisis thundering towards us. In some ways its the most important time of our brief history. I would argue with our technical advances we could almost buy ourselves out of the predicament. But only just barely and only if we do it NOW. Of course, no one wants to talk about these politically incorrect issues, population control, fair global resource management or future crisis planning. (Incidentally I find many parallels with the industry I am in, the Cyber Security world where usually our pleas of planning ahead are often ignored until it's too late, almost always!).  So we all do our bit and for me it's Sea Shepherd, but in the back of my mind these thoughts linger. Probably why I've not even considered having kids. When will our species realize that how we treat our planet is interconnected to our well being? In my view not until it's too late, not until it's too late. RIP Homo Sapiens, your time is nigh...and we can only hope for a quick painless apocalypse on the 21 December,  because the current palliative care ward which our species resides in will eventually be the coffin we bury ourselves in unless we make urgent changes and fast.
